In this post I will make a sort of tutorial to create funny frames in order to make your photographs more inviting. The software we use is Photoshop CS3 but I think that this procedure works also with CS and CS2. The basic concept is to use levels and canvas sizes in order to create additional borders. Let us see.
Here we have a photo resized for the web (524 x 800 pixels) with all the post-production steps included, that is shapening, exposure corrections and so on.

First of all, we have to select the entire image by clicking Command+A (or Ctrl+A in a PC). Now copy it (command+C) and create a new level from the copy by typing command+J.
Go on the Image menu and by clicking on Canvas Size, modify the proportion of the canvas. I suggest to you to select the "relative" option. In this example I type 90 pixels both in width and height.

Now click OK and go on the low right panel and double click on the new level icon. Here you can select the option you prefer; I've choosen the first one, external shadow and modified the values like size, opacity and so on. Play a little with that, in order to obtain the result you like. In this step I've also selected the "trace" option with a black color.

At this point you must put together the levels and, if you want, repeat the operation in order to create a new external border (select all the image, create a new level and then select the trace).
The result you should obtain is this one.

This procedure is very simple and powerful, because you can create all the frames you want. Also you can include your personal logo by the classical copy/paste action. Here is an example.

I think that you can have fun and create very beautiful things.
Goodbye
