La premessa che faccio è la seguente: scatto in RAW, con parametri in macchina di contrasto e saturazione a -1, gli altri a 0. Questo perché (1) con contrasto basso recupero informazioni sulle ombre e (2) voglio avere i colori più naturali possibile e aumentarne la saturazione con gli strumenti opportuni, molto più precisi. Detto questo, mostro un esempio piuttosto lampante del prima e del dopo.

I passi che ho seguito per arrivare alla foto finale non sono molto complessi, anzi, e sono quelli che sto usando ultimamente. Una sorta di workflow insomma. Allora procediamo.

Nel metodo LAB, duplico il livello dello sfondo, poi vado su Immagine/Regolazioni e Curve. Qui, invece dei canali R, G, B ci sono i canali Luminosità, a, b. Al primo canale applico una curva ad S, mentre agli altri due agisco come in Fig. 2. L’importante è che la linea deve passare per il centro, altrimenti ci sono sbilanciamenti di colore.

6. Non mi preoccupo se l’immagine è troppo satura o se ci sono parti i cui colori sono esagerati. Tanto sto lavorando su un livello dedicato. Ora ritorno al metodo RGB e alla domanda se voglio unire i livelli gli dico di no, altrimenti perderei le modifiche. Ora posso tranquillamente fare tutte le operazioni che voglio. Troppo satura? Bene, diminuisco l’opacità del livello. Ci sono parti che voglio mantenere con il colore di prima (solitamente il cielo viene sempre male)? Benissimo, vado su Livello, e applico una maschera di livello (io scelgo solitamente quella Mostra Tutto) e poi con il pennello dipingo le parti a cui NON VOGLIO applicare la regolazione (pennello nero). Se scegliessi la maschera Nascondi Tutto, con il pennello dipingo le parti a cui VOGLIO applicare la regolazione (pennello bianco).
7. Quasi finito ma manca la ciliegina sulla torta. Perché di solito preferisco recuperare anche qualcosa dalle ombre e dalle luci. In Photoshop c’è una bellissima funzione chiamata Luci/Ombre che fa proprio al caso mio. Per avere una libertà maggiore, lavoro su un livello dedicato; quindi duplico lo sfondo e vado su Immagine/Regolazioni/Luci/Ombre e regolo i parametri a seconda del gusto personale. Da tenere presente che sto lavorando su un livello e che posso sempre applicare una maschera di livello per correggere selettivamente. 8. Ultima cosa: lo sharpening. Ci sono tantissimi modi per rendere più nitida la foto. A seconda della nitidezza intrinseca dell’immagine prodotta dalla fotocamera, agisco in maniera diversa. Diciamo però che in linea di massima procedo così. Vado su Filtro/Contrasta e scelgo Contrasta Migliore. I parametri che uso sono quelli mostrati in Fig. 3., dove di volta in volta modifico il fattore di contrasto a seconda della grandezza dell’immagine. Per le foto a dimensioni originali non scendo sotto il 60%, mentre per foto ridimensionate sto sul 30%. Se voglio essere più preciso, dopo questo filtro applico anche un filtro Accentua Passaggio. Qui bisogna lavorare su un livello dedicato (al solito, duplico lo sfondo). Solitamente non alzo il raggio a più di 5 pixel, anzi diciamo che mi mantengo attorno a 1. Poi, regolata l’opacità come meglio mi aggrada, unisco i livelli con il metodo “sovrapponi” e il gioco è fatto.

Ecco, questo è quanto. Ovviamente sono passi generali che a scriverli e a leggerli si sta molto ma che alla fine richiedono meno di 15 minuti per ogni foto. Spero sia utile a qualcun altro. Io con questo piccolo workflow mi trovo abbastanza bene, almeno per le foto paesaggistiche. Poi dipende sempre dalle condizioni di luce e dagli effetti che si vogliono ottenere.
