My new Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS really looks fantastic. The extreme power of the zoom and the large range of focal lenghts, make this lens surely the best in what concern the rate quality/price. The optics is constructed with UD glass lenses that assure low dispersion of light and low chromatic aberrations. Furthermore, they are caracterized by the Super Spectra treatment that assure that no ghosts artifacts will enter in your frames.
I've made few tests to evaluate the power of the image stabilizer, [indispensabile] at large focal lenghts, and I made a comparison between this new lens and the standard 18-55mm one.
Now, let us see the power of the zoom. All this pictures was made by shooting in P program and ISO 100, in order to evaluate the focal extension.

Focal lenght: 55mm.

Focal lenght: 100mm.

Focal lenght: 135mm.

Focal lenght: 250mm.

Very impressive.
Now, compare the EF-S 18-55mm standard lens, with this new EF-S 55-250mm. Both these pictures are taken in Av mode, with an aperture value of 7.1, ISO 100, with a focal lenght of 55mm and cropped to the 100%.

With the 18-55mm.

With the 55-250mm.

As you can easily note, the new 55-250mm is sharper that the standard 18-55mm, and also the colors are better defined and saturated. But the bigger difference between these two lenses is with an aperture of f/5.6. Indeed, in the case of the 18-55mm, this is the maximum aperture at 55mm, while for the 55-250 the max value is 4. So take a look. Both images are cropped at 100%.

With the 18-55mm at f/5.6.

With the 55-250mm at f/5.6.

The difference here is tremendous.
I have to make other tests and comparisons, but at first sight this new Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS is destinated to take a lot of wonderful photographs.
